California Reading Lists

California Reading List (CRL)

Near the bottom of the STAR Performance Report is a California Reading List Number. This number is tied to the student's Reading Comprehension score on the CAT/6. The numbers range from 1-13 and correspond to a list of state-recommended books at the student's reading level. For more information regarding the California Reading Lists, click on the link above.

Recommended Literature List from the California Department of Education

This new list updates and replaces two earlier documents published by the California Department of Education - Recommended Readings in Literature: Kingergarten Through Grade Eight (1996) and Recommended Literature: Grades Nine Thorugh Twelve 1990.
To use this list, click on the link above. Then on the page that appears, click on the link "Recommended Literature: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve" (this is just below the word "Search:"). This takes you to a Search List page. You will need to scroll down, fill in any fields as you wish (such as grade level), then click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.
